With any holiday involving gift giving, there’s undoubtedly always a last minute scramble of shoppers who forgot the upcoming occasion or procrastinated on getting something. Mother’s Day this year poses even more of a challenge with restaurants not able to provide the traditional brunch service and non-essential shops shut down.

Oregon companies have long prided themselves on their dedication to quality and craftsmanship, and it goes without saying that many small businesses are being hit hard during these times. Let’s keep our maker culture alive and strong. Shop local and treat the mom or mom figure in your life…it’s a win-win! I’ve compiled some of the best last minute picks:

Portland

Broadway Books is accepting orders between 12-4 p.m. for curbside pickup this week. Per their Instagram, shipping and limited delivery are also available; check directly with them more info. Multnomah Village independent bookstore Annie Bloom’s is also offering limited delivery and shipping. Their Mother’s Day services include gift recommendations by phone, adding a card to an order, and complimentary gift wrap (be sure to let them know at checkout).

Coava Coffee’s Hawthorne location is open 8-2 daily and bagged coffee is buy one, get one 25% off. Perfect for anyone who’s like me and has the habit of getting a little something for themselves when shopping for gifts. Lovejoy’s Tea Room is bringing tea parties back into style! They’re still taking orders for tea service pickup or delivery between 1:45 and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

JinJu Patisserie has a large assortment of breakfast pastries, desserts, cakes, and chocolates ready for your loved one’s sweet tooth. Check out their menu and text/call your order with your name and pickup time (Friday-Sunday, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m.).

The Meadow is Portland’s premier purveyor of fine salts, chocolates, and bitters. Any foodie mom would be thrilled to get one of their personally curated Mother’s Day Mystery Boxes. A portion of proceeds is even going to Portland day shelter and community center Rose Haven! Supplies are limited and shipping is free.

Solabee Flowers has a limited amount of contactless delivery spots open for Saturday (5/9) and the big day on Sunday. Inventory on their online store is updated daily and you can also call to inquire about their most current stock. Bouquets have an optional add-on of Cloudforest chocolate and/or a handmade candle. Sammy’s Flowers is almost at order capacity (as of the evening 5/5) and encouraging online ordering for no-contact delivery Friday-Saturday in the Portland-metro area.

Greater Oregon

Troutdale sweet shack Sugarpine’s drive thru will be open this Sunday noon-4 p.m. for Mother’s Day sundaes, frosé popsicles, and sparkling wine. Please note that masks are required for service.

Wine country staple Durant at Red Ridge Farms is open from 11-4 daily. From olive oil and wine to plants and their recently launched candle collection, shop their online store and pick-up at the gift shop/farm. They ask that visitors practice social distancing and wear a mask when coming to the farm. Four guests will be allowed in the gift shop and nursery greenhouse at a time.

Eugene’s Euphoria Chocolate Company is offering curbside pickup and local delivery. I cannot speak more highly of their wine truffles; specifically the Pinot noir ones.

Online

Palate Polish is a female-owned, vegan line of nail polish inspired by food. The perfect gift for someone missing their manicures! Order by today to ensure on-time delivery. All orders come in individual or 6-piece boxes with tissue paper, and you can even include a handwritten note free of charge—just enter your message in the notes section at checkout.

Gift cards to local businesses are also a great way to support your favorite places who need an income boost now to survive. Buy now, shop later! Think Powell’s for your favorite reader to shop their own quarantine reading list, or restaurants for a post-pandemic night out.
