Families with babies know how quickly diapers, wipes, and food can add up. Akin is helping ease some of that pressure with a free baby supply giveaway coming to Vancouver this August.
The nonprofit will bring its new “Bundles of Love” campaign to the Hazel Dell Fred Meyer on Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, while supplies last.
Families and caregivers who attend will receive a free tote bag filled with at least 80 diapers, along with other baby essentials such as wipes, baby food, and information about local community resources.
The event is free and open to the public.
The Hazel Dell Fred Meyer is located at 7700 NE Highway 99 in Vancouver.
The giveaway is part of a three-city campaign designed to meet an immediate need while connecting families with longer-term support. Diapers are among the most requested items at Akin’s Family Resource Centers, and the cost can place a serious strain on family budgets. Diapers also typically cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits.
“Diapers are dignity. They are among the most requested items across all of our Family Resource Centers,” said Dr. Daniele Lyman-Torres, Akin’s chief operating officer. “Bundles of Love responds directly to that need while increasing access to the full range of services and programs available for families.”
During the Vancouver event, families will also receive information about Akin’s local Family Resource Center and the services available year-round.
Those services include food assistance, early learning programs, Play & Learn groups for young children, behavioral health and clinical services, and help from Family Navigators who can connect families with additional community resources.
Akin operates seven Family Resource Centers across Washington, including locations serving Vancouver, Seattle, Spokane, Walla Walla and Wenatchee. The centers are designed to provide families with practical help before challenges become larger emergencies.
Fred Meyer, with support from The Kroger Co. Foundation, is partnering with Akin to host the campaign and donate diapers and other baby supplies.
“At Fred Meyer, we’re deeply committed to supporting the families and communities we serve every day,” said Tiffany Sanders, Fred Meyer head of public affairs. “We’re proud to partner with Akin Bundles of Love to help meet families where they are and be part of building stronger, healthier communities across Washington.”
Families who cannot attend the giveaway may also visit an Akin Family Resource Center to ask about diapers, baby essentials and other available services.
