Let’s get your kids involved in the kitchen this spring and have them create fun, easy ways to learn how to prepare meals that are not only healthy but also fun to make.

RAINBOW VEGGIE PINWHEELS

You will need the following ingredients:

Whole wheat tortillas

Flavored or regular cream cheese

Shredded carrots, spinach, onions, radishes, cucumbers, or bell peppers

Sliced turkey or chicken is optional

Spread the cream cheese on the tortilla.  Sprinkle the veggies on the spread.  Adding chicken or turkey for protein is optional.  Roll the tortilla tightly and cut it in half if using a larger tortilla.  The kids can design these with their own color theme as well.  I love olives, so there are many types of olives to choose from that can help your kids create a fun and tasty lunch or snack.

MINI ENGLISH MUFFIN PIZZAS

These are fun to make, and your kids will enjoy creating ones that they love.

You will need the following ingredients:

Whole-grain English muffins

Marinara sauce

Mozzarella Cheese

Topping:  Olives, Mushrooms, veggies, pepperoni of your choice, pineapple, turkey slices

Spread the sauce on each muffin.  Add your cheese and toppings.  Put on a baking pan at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.

Your kids will love the smaller version of a pizza and making it just the way they like it.

Do your kids like fruit and veggie smoothies for breakfast or a snack?

Get involved with helping your child figure out what their favorites are.  Get 7 freezer bags and put a different fruit or veggie mix in each bag.  This makes it easy for a quick morning preparation before school.  I like to add almond or soy milk to mine.  Kids can experiment with assorted flavors, and adding cinnamon gives it a fun taste too, with fruit smoothies.

BANANA QUESADILLAS OR SANDWICH

This is one of my favorites.

You will need a tortilla or whole wheat bread

Peanut Butter

Honey

Banana

Chocolate chips

Put a spoonful of chocolate chips in the peanut butter and stir.  Add one teaspoon of honey to the peanut butter.  Spread the peanut butter on the tortilla or bread, then add the banana slices.

You can warm the tortilla in a pan for a short while.  This will melt in your mouth, and kids love this recipe.

Have your kids help you make a grocery list for the items that you will need for these recipes.  Getting kids in the kitchen is a wonderful way to bond and enjoy creating together.  There are so many ways to make cooking fun with your children.  But also teaching them about cleaning up is important as well.

Start creating fond memories in the kitchen and enjoy the creative process with your kids.  It is fun, and your children will have great memories of spending time with you and doing something that we all enjoy – cooking and eating.
