There couldn’t be a better time to take your family to see some live theater! The renowned Portland Playhouse is putting on Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical now through November 5th. The award-winning musical promises fun for the whole family, and it’s sure to inspire kids who are unfamiliar with the story to fall for the beloved children’s tale.

Matilda the Musical follows a unique, remarkably wise young girl raised by parents who do not understand her gifts. To escape their cruel treatment, Matilda turns to the fantastical world of books. Things only get more complicated when she is sent to a new school and meets the terrifying principal Miss Trunchbull. It is a benevolent teacher named Miss Honey who finally recognizes Matilda’s brilliant (and magical) point of view.

The musical version of the Roald Dahl classic features uproariously catchy tunes, including “Revolting Children” and “Miracle.” Audience members may recognize those and more from the smash hit theatrical version of the musical released in 2022. The Portland Playhouse’s production is directed by Brian Weaver, with musical direction provided by Eric Nordin and choreography by Kemba Shannon. Act soon to see the production live, as tickets are selling out fast! Learn more about ticket prices and performance dates here.
