Burgers are a great meal for family and friends, but it can take a lot of work to move away from the fast food phenoms we’ve grown up with, right? Wrong! Portland has the best burger places around, and you need to skip the greasy fries and drive-thru windows and get something you and your family can sink your teeth into! With family in mind and inventive menus, even the pickiest eater will find something they love.

Little Big Burger

Little Big Burger is well known for having the best burgers and a great atmosphere. People will line up to get food here because it is mouth-wateringly delicious. The food is under ten dollars, you have great options for floats and desserts, and the burgers are great for little ones, too! We’d recommend the original cheeseburger, truffle fries, and a root beer float if you come here. You can’t go wrong!

However, the best part about this restaurant is that they accommodate gluten-free choices by offering a lettuce wrap burger at no charge. They also have an extensive cheese collection that includes Chevre and Tillamook Swiss.

Killer Burger

Do you remember how everyone was going crazy over peanut butter pizza? No? That’s alright because Killer Burger has something better! The peanut butter pickle bacon burger (try saying that five times fast). They’ve also got the Teemah, the Fun Guy, and, if you’re a fan of onions, the Motley Que. The kids’ menu is simple, with a bacon cheeseburger option, but if your child wants to try something more, you can always get a pint-size burger instead. However, there is a double option for the grown-ups who want more.

Not only do they have gluten-free options, but they also have meatless patties and super-secret sauce, and you can add eggs or ham to your burgers. If you are feeling courageous, try the bomb sauce.

Super Deluxe

Super Deluxe has an uncomplicated menu. Why? Because it’s so good they don’t need anything else! Ice cream, natural fruit, fizzy water, and more await you here, and the fizzy water always hits the right note with families. The marionberry or passionfruit is the tastiest but refreshing drink you could ask for.

The meat is locally sourced and has been for over four generations. They also have cage-free chicken and all-natural pork! If you come here, the burgers include the single or double deluxe, a veggie deluxe, or a vegan deluxe. That means everyone can be happy when they come here!

Skyline Restaurant

Step back in time and feel the fun that comes with old-style diner restaurants. Founded in 1935, the food at Skyline Restaurant is excellent, and you have a lot of choices about what you’d like to eat, including an Aloha burger or Philly Cheese Steak. Kids can choose a hamburger or cheeseburger and get fries or applesauce. You can get juice or milk for those who can’t have soda. Additionally, you can have tots, onion rings, sweet potato fries, or pineapple rings. We recommend the pineapple; it adds a sweetness that people crave.

Before you go home, however, be sure to try a milkshake. They have over a dozen flavors, from pineapple, orange, raspberry, or coffee, to name a few. Are you a fan of iced tea? Get the Huckleberry or peach; it’s so yummy and refreshing. Trust us, and you’ll be glad you did!

Hopworks Urban Brewery

While a brewery is probably not the first place you think of when considering a family-friendly restaurant, Hopworks Urban Brewery is excellent for young ones. It caters to children by having designated play areas, and they have the best burgers in town. The burgers are made from grass-fed cows and have great dessert options. We recommend the apple fritter fingers. One thing that stands out here is that they have vegan sauces that taste amazing!

For adults, we’d recommend the Italian burger, the mushroom arugula burger, or the pepper burger if you want to feel that fire. The veggie burger is also incredible, with roasted red peppers and a cilantro-lime coconut sauce. Are you hungry yet? We know we are!

Eat Your Heart Out

When it comes to burgers, Portland knows what it’s doing. Each choice is inventive, the staff are great, and they know how to show families a good time. Another great thing about these choices is that they all accommodate eaters who need unique options, so you have choices no matter what you want. Just remember dessert!
