While it’s important for any individual to keep healthy, it’s even more crucial for a pregnant woman. By taking care of yourself through your diet, your social connections, and your lifestyle, you are ensuring a healthier pregnancy and a more enjoyable surrogacy journey.

Changes to Your Diet

Some women choose to eat organic produce while pregnant. While there is no conclusive evidence that non-organic produce is harmful, one study does demonstrate that organic produce does reduce the level of pesticides in newborn infants. Some dietary restrictions advised during pregnancy are common, such as avoiding raw fish and eggs. As a surrogate, you will need to follow your doctor’s dietary guidelines as well as discuss any specific dietary requests your intended parents have for you.

Cultivate a Strong Support Network

Creating a support system is a must for anyone who is going through the surrogacy process. By reaching out to those who are close to you, you may find that you have more assistance than you realized was available. By letting your employer and/or close friends and family know about what you’re going through, they’ll be able to accommodate you in the ways that you need, whether that be an adjustment to your work schedule, assisting with child care, etc. Your colleagues and/or friends and family might also serve as a source of emotional support.

Take Time to Rest

Some joke that sleep might be the true American dream. We’re always complaining about how little sleep we get, and if you’re a parent to young children or babies, you’re no stranger to that reality. While pregnant, it’s important to get plenty of rest and a full night’s sleep, as well as to work the schedule that allows you to stay healthy – no matter whether you work a traditional job, are a stay-at-home parent, or some combination of the two.
