Tsai Yun-ju’s art is pure vibe—complex yet super chill- blending her early training in gongbi (a traditional Chinese ink style) with her own spin in oils from her Taipei National University of the Arts studies.
She calls her work a meditation on imagination and conflict. Imagine each brushstroke like a thread of conversation—flowing, bending, connecting people on a deeper level.
Her art takes inspiration from the big, epic stories in Chinese literature: generational shifts, power moves, and the rise and fall of destinies. There’s no clear storyline here, but instead, a ton of abstract drama that lets your mind wander wherever it wants.
For the painting included in the exhibition, 翩若驚鴻 Beginning with Scale Armour, 2022, Tsai plays with white space to cut through the intensity of her tangled lines. It’s like she pauses the conversation between her imagined figures, giving you a break just to breathe and soak up the emotions.✨
