This is an excellent option for families, and it’s been a success over the years. They’ve also taken comments from participants and made changes to improve it so it will be different from the years before. You don’t have to run; you can choose to walk. You’ll start at the zoo and end at the Elephant Plaza. The event also offers two different events for different ages. The best part is that over $20,000 of the registration fees will benefit the zoo and help with the animals.
One tip is to sign up as soon as you can. Registration is limited to only 2500 people, and you won’t be able to register on the day of the race. There will also be a pumpkin pie raffle to win a large pumpkin pie. In addition, kids will receive ribbons for the trot, making it even more special.
A special note is that the course has been changed to a 5K route. There are no aid stations, and concession stands will be closed. You’ll need to bring hydration with you.
The Providence Hood & Portland to Coast Turkey Trot is another popular option for families, and it provides a great experience for them. You need to go to the Portland International Raceway, and there are two options: the 5k, which is a run or walk, and the Kids Race, which is 200 yards. While the kid’s run is free, the 5k will cost $40.
Additional supplies will be available to buy from food carts. All 5k participants will get a medal and a T-shirt for participating. You’ll want to be sure to give your proper size when you register. As locals know, this is one of the most well-known Turkey Trots in Portland, so don’t miss it!
If you are interested in a vegan-friendly Turkey Trot, this is the one. The event is for everyone and is a 5k. The course is fully paved, and there is only a single street crossing. They’ve made minor changes to the starting line and finishing area, and you have the option of ordering a T-shirt or tank top to commemorate the event. However, the shirts are limited in size if you choose the vintage option.
They have three different registration options, and you can register on the race day. Children up to six years old get in free, no matter when you register. The course will start near the amusement park’s roller rink and return to the park. You’ll travel to the Sellwood Bridge and back through the Springwater Corridor. At the end of the trot, they will have free vegan food for you to enjoy, making it a fun and animal-friendly occasion.
Bonus Trot

The 18th annual Turkey Trot will be from the end of November to early December, and they offer family packages and options where you get t-shirts. They also have virtual options for families. Over the years, they have donated over 80,000 pounds of food and have raised half a million dollars to help people in need. They’ve also helped fund children’s programs that have given 100,000 meals to at-risk children. Many people love coming to this trot because of the good they do for the community.
As a registered participant, you can donate a bag of non-perishable food and receive a free t-shirt (while supplies last). There will be water stops, volunteers, paramedics, and additional help if you need assistance with the course. However, there are also sponsors who will be willing to give out food and water for free.
Run or Walk to Fun!
No matter which of these you choose, you’ll have a great time and be able to make a day of it. Be sure to wear good shoes and bring water and supplies, as not all will have them. Don’t forget to take a picture of yourself at the finish line with your medals and ribbons!
