Hey there, welcome back to “The Lobby Post”, your monthly dose of all things artsy and cool! If you haven’t checked out The Lobby yet, you’re missing out on a whole lot of creativity, community vibes, and just plain awesomeness.
Located smack dab on the ground floor of the Ellen Browning Building (2871 SE Division Street. Portland, OR 97202), The Lobby is where it’s at for anyone who digs art, wants to get their creative juices flowing, or just needs a chill spot to hang out. And guess what? Our exhibits change every six months, featuring top-notch contemporary artists that you’d totally expect to see in fancy-pants museums.
Best part? It’s totally free and open to everyone! Swing by Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm, and soak in all the artistic goodness.
Now, drumroll, please … Get ready to mark your calendars because we’ve got something super special coming up! Our latest show, “Somewhere in the Middle,” kicks off on Friday, May 10th. This one’s all about getting you right in the middle of the action, whether it’s the middle of the canvas or the middle of an epic story. Trust us, you won’t want to miss this.
And speaking of awesome stuff, let us introduce you to one of the rockstar artists featured in the show: Claude Lalanne. This French sculptor, along with her hubby, creates art that’s all about joy, humor, and nature. Her pieces are seriously jaw-dropping.
Picture this: a bronze table inspired by Gingko leaves. Yeah, those leaves that scream hope and love. Claude Lalanne nailed it with this one. And can we talk about her whimsical lanterns? Hanging cages with fluttering butterflies around a glowing center? Pure magic.
Lalanne’s art isn’t just pretty to look at; it’s also got layers of meaning. Take the ginkgo tree, for example. It’s been around for over 100 million years, just chilling and being resilient. Lalanne’s work celebrates that kind of endurance and beauty in nature.
But wait, there’s more! … it’s Kids Day on Saturday, May 11th, from 12 to 2 pm! Yep, you heard that right – a whole day dedicated to kiddos and creativity.
We’re bringing in a special guest – none other than the fabulous artist John Houck, whose work is featured in the exhibition. Plus, our awesome gallery assistants will be on hand to walk you through the exhibition and hook you up with some sweet art supplies. Oh, and did we mention? You’ll score a swag bag loaded with art materials to keep your creative juices flowing long after Kids Day is over.
So grab your crew, bring your imagination, and join us at The Lobby for a day filled with art, fun, and endless possibilities. See you there, cool cats! 🎨✨
