Spring is coming, and with that comes warmer weather, sunshine, and all the fun that comes with it. While most people think summer is the best time to go to the beach, you can go anytime and experience the fun. Coming to the beach with family and friends can be an excellent activity. Swimming, kayaking, boogie boarding, and more await! With that in mind, let’s check out some great beaches that will have your family never wanting to go home!
Seaside Beach is the best place to relax, swim, and have a great time. You can do so many different things here, which is why it’s so popular. It has an aquarium, a carousal mall, or an arcade that is just a hop, skip, and jump from the beach. You can also check out Phillips Candies when you need a sweet treat!
As far as the beach goes, however, you can surf, kayak, paddleboat, and more. Families like this beach because it’s clean, more significant than other beaches in the area, and, most of the time, not crowded.
Cannon Beach is known for two things. It is a beautiful stretch of beach, and they have great tidepools you can explore. They also have great kite shops where you can pick up some of the most exciting kites you’ve ever seen. I’d recommend Pinky’s Kite Factory or Once Upon a Breeze. It’s the oldest shop on the coast, and they have high-performance kites, stunt kites, and more!
Its people have appreciated that even though this beach is trendy, like Seaside Beach, it’s not crowded, so you can enjoy it without worrying about your child dealing with potential pushing or shoving to get to the water.
This beach is considered a recreational hotspot that promises a great fun day. Kiteboarding and boogie boarding are two fan favorites here, but you should know that the water gets very chilly. Other beach activities include beachcombing, fat-tire biking, kite surfing, and sandcastle making! There are also great restaurants nearby, including Wanda’s in Nehalem (not too far away) and Left Coast Siesta, an incredible Mexican restaurant. There’s even a small, 9-hole golf course that kids are allowed to play on.
This beach is considered a wonderful place to return to nature, and if you travel a little further, you can go clamming and crabbing. This can be a fun experience if you’ve never done it. Having the proper digger for clamming will ensure that it goes easier!
There are a lot of things to do here. There is a unique rock formation at this beach that you can see immediately from the sand, and it’s one of the most recognizable formations on the coast. It takes a great photo opportunity! Traveling further to the marina, you can fish and catch fresh crabs and oysters.
The beach has over seven miles of sandy areas, and people love to come here to go kite flying, swimming, or beach combing! If you want to add hiking to this trip, check out the Old Growth Cedar Preserve. It’s a little over one mile and close to the beach. It takes most people just over twenty minutes to complete the trail, so it’s friendly and accessible.
While it’s lesser known than the other beaches, it’s a fantastic location. It’s one of the last places in the country that the dories (boats) launch from the beach. If you have little ones, I guarantee they’ll love seeing it. There’s also a festival to celebrate Dory’s. It happens every July with the theme ‘Legends of the Deep.’ It takes place over a mile of land, and you can see a 1927 calliope housed in a 1930 circus wagon among classic cars. However, people love the dories and that is the main draw.
Apart from the festival, I would recommend checking out the dunes. They are so much fun, and your kids will have a blast playing.
I’d also recommend checking out whale watching minutes away or trying sandboarding. It’s like snowboarding, but you’ll have to do it on the dunes instead of powder. If you’d rather play in the water, try windsurfing after you’ve swum!
Helpful Tips
Because no lifeguards are on the beach, you should always oversee your children in and out of the water. It also may be a good idea to get water shoes as many beaches have rocks that can be sharp until you bring them into the deeper areas. Life jackets can also be a great idea for younger children.
Have Fun in The Sand
The beach can be an excellent place for families to go and have a day of fun. Each beach has something unique to offer your family, and you’ll have a fantastic time! Don’t forget sunscreen!
