With November, many people are thinking of one thing. Turkey! Your little one will be making gobbles in school, the family will be coming from all over to celebrate, and you’ll be making a large dinner. Now, if you’re feeling the bubbles rising in your stomach and a little anxious, we’ve got your back. There is no need to be worried about money when it comes to Thanksgiving, and we’ve got all the tips you need to succeed!
Coupons And Apps Are Your Friend
So, we’ve all seen the people on television racking thousands in savings using coupons and thought that’s impossible. Unbelievably, it’s possible! Just not to that extent. However, when it comes to Thanksgiving, using coupons and apps can save you far more than you think. I use three apps when it comes to saving. Ibotta, Fetch, and Receipt Hog. What Fetch and Receipt Hog do is give you points for your receipts. You take a picture, save your coins or points, and then get gift cards on your phone. When it comes through (it takes about three days), you scan the bar code from your phone at the register, and it takes the money off your order. The best part? Both apps take receipts from restaurants, gas, and groceries.
Ibotta will give you cash for shopping for the items that you want. For instance, this week, there was an offer to get fifty cents for buying macaroni. When you buy it, take a picture of your receipt, and it will credit you the money. You can pull out the cash at twenty-five dollars and use it for whatever you need. Remember, choose your store, click the items (or rebates) you want, and then upload the receipt. If you haven’t clicked the offers, they won’t pay you. There are fun bonuses that help as well.
Around Thanksgiving every year, you’ll find rebates for green beans, stuffing, turkey, drinks, and more. That means when you’re shopping for what you need, you’ll get the money back! In addition to this, check out your local newspapers as well. They always have decent coupons when it comes to holiday items. The reason this is beneficial is that you can get the price lower and get Ibotta money back. It’s double savings!
Potlucks Are Fun and Take the Pressure Off
I’ll never forget one of my favorite Thanksgivings after I got married. We had Thanksgiving with my husband’s family, and everyone contributed. My sister-in-law brought dessert, my mother-in-law made the turkey and a small ham, and I prepared the side dishes with his grandmother and had the best time in the kitchen. It was a great idea. After all, it takes the pressure off each person because everyone gets to do something small, and no one gets stuck doing everything. It’s also an excellent time to bond with people you haven’t seen in a long time.
Prep In Advance
If you stock up on vegetables when prices are slashed, you can prep in advance and save them. Green beans can be frozen, and the flavor gets preserved. You can also boil your potatoes and then freeze them as well. Some families prefer to skip the extra steps and buy frozen vegetables because they can be cheaper. Prepping in advance can also save you a vast amount of time.
It’s Okay to Ditch Your Regular Stores
You may be loyal to giant superstores, but feel free to check out local stores and smaller options. For instance, local markets can be a great way to find the dried herbs that people like to use; farmer’s markets will usually let you buy wholesale or give options for cheaper ways to feed your family, and local markets more often than not offer their discounts to keep you coming back.
Think Outside the Box
Thinking creatively can be a great solution because it can make a meal much cheaper. For instance, many people believe frozen pie crusts are the most affordable way to make a pie, but I’ve met people who could make their own for a fraction of the cost. Additionally, you can buy bread and make your stuffing from things that you have in your home. Thinking about things this way, you can see how being imaginative can save you a lot of money if you’re willing to put in a little work.
Have A Great Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is a time for family, and you shouldn’t be worried about money. Instead, take these tips to heart and enjoy being with your family and eating a fantastic meal. Just remember to go back for seconds!
