Are you a mother? Do you have a mother? Do you love a mother? Or do you have a mother-type individual in your life? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, we have you covered. Mother’s Day is quickly approaching on Sunday, May 14, 2023. Now is the perfect time to get your gift(s). We have a list of places to help get the perfect Mother’s Day planned and to create a wonderful day.

Here are some uniquely Oregon types of gifts, food, and activities.

First, let’s start with brunch. Mother’s Day and brunches go hand and hand. Foodgressing has an article all about Mother’s Day brunch restaurants in Portland for this year. Another list of brunch spots in Portland is covered in Eater. These are the top brunches in the city that are only available on the weekend. Both articles have some great options for you and yours.

If you aren’t really wanting to fight the crowds or deal with your children melting down as you “enjoy” your brunch, then Elephants has some great options for you to have brunch (and gifts) at home. Elephant’s Deli has Mother’s Day meals and gift boxes available. It seems like the perfect one-stop shop. Go here to order food for Mother’s Day. You can order brunch or the Mother’s Day dinner, or both! Elephants also have a Mother’s Day Luxury Gift Box that includes: Wanderflower bath salts, Wanderflower heatable eye pillow, faux succulent plant, Relaxus Beauty opal facial massage roller, Provence Sante artisan soap, Paddywax soy candle, Elephants Spring Bark chocolate from Cloudforest, Luisa Abram chocolate, Elephants bridge mix, and Prosecco Brut Rosé NV Col Dorato. There are also some other gift boxes that could be great gifts for the special person you are honoring.

What about some unique gift shops? There is a VERY Portland-specific shop called Hello, From Portland. Hello, From Portland has curated souvenirs and gifts themed around the many colorful elements that make Portland unique. Have you checked out Blackthorn Mercantile yet? Blackthorn Mercantile is your local merchant of all things essential for home and living. With an array of gifts, decor, plants, and essential products, you will find something for everyone. Another good one is Pinky. Pinky is a shop with the latest emerging and local artists and brands. They have a variety of products, from art, apparel, jewelry, accessories, gift items, vintage apparel, and tattoo/art pop-ups. You are sure to find something perfect for yourself or someone else.

Powell’s City of Books is a wonderful Mother’s Day excursion location. You can shop for books, people watch, or just take advantage of a nice place to get some presents. If you want some other bookstore options, check out our own Oregon Kids’ Stephanie McCoy’s article about some cute local bookstores to add to your list.

Do you, your mother, or your mother figure like plants? That is always a mom favorite! #plantmom We recently covered some awesome nurseries if you want to check them out here. That is a fun outing, and you get more plants! Win/win!

Or maybe you want the gift of time and togetherness? Oregon Kids’ Stacy Davis recently covered some family hikes. Check those hikes out here. And Oregon Kids’ Emily Park covered some family-friendly activities on the Oregon Coast. Check out those activities here. Hopefully, you will find some new ideas about what to explore!

Whatever you choose to do, be sure it is something that the mother you are honoring wants to do. The commercials and Hallmark movies may send one message of what a perfect Mother’s Day looks like, but it isn’t a one size fits all event. A perfect Mother’s Day may be brunches and outings, or maybe it is sleeping late and having a little “me” time all alone. There are no rules for what works best for you and your family.

If Mother’s Day is painful for you, do what makes you happy. Take a walk, read a book, meditate, or whatever will be meaningful for you.

What plans do you have for Mother’s Day? Do you have yearly traditions that you celebrate the mothers in your life? What are YOUR perfect Mother’s Day plans? What are your ideas about the best Portland Mother’s Day?
