With the kids back in school and the weekly routine setting in, I’ve been on the hunt for some fun weekend activities to check out with the family. Below you’ll find a couple of local spots and some upcoming events that allow you to take in the beautiful September days in the Pacific Northwest. It’s been challenging to plan activities and events with the ever-changing covid guidelines, so be sure to check out the event websites before taking off just in case things have been canceled at the last minute.
Zenger Farm
Zenger Farm is an urban farm located in SE Portland. They provide opportunities for kids and adults alike to learn about sustainable food systems. You can enjoy the farm during their Open Farm Day on September 25th from 1:00-4:00 pm. You can walk around the farm during this event, taste the current harvest, and participate in various activities. They will have stations set up for the kids to make crafts and try some gardening for themselves. The community chefs will also be making fresh meals to go for you and your family to enjoy! They have several events set to take place in September. You can find more information on the Zenger Farm website.
Celebrate Mollala and Mollala Heritage Apple Festival
Celebrate Molalla and The Mollala Heritage Apple Festival will return this year and are being held September 18th from 10:00 am-6:00 pm. You and the family can take a drive down to the Molalla Area Historical Society and join in the fun. There will be live music, artisan vendors, free kids crafts, a car and tractor show, an expanded food court, and beer and wine for the grown-ups.
Bella Organic
If you’re looking for something a little less crowded but still has that cozy fall feeling, head out to Bella Organic and spend a day on the farm. During September, you and the family (even the canine members) can make your way through the corn maze. This year’s theme for the maze is United Against Hate. You’ll be sure to work up an appetite while hiking through the maze, so once you’ve completed that endeavor, you can head over to Bella’s Courtyard for fresh homemade food and drinks.
Angela lives in SE Portland with her husband, four kids and their dog. She views parenting as one of the most challenging yet rewarding parts of her life. Her kids range in age from six to fourteen and each one shines in their own unique way. She enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as staying active! She likes attending local events and exploring the culinary scene in Portland. She’s a self proclaimed foodie who admittedly needs help mastering proteins but claims to make a mean chocolate chip cookie. Some of her favorite activities include spending time in nature, playing soccer, reading, camping, hiking and just hanging with the fam! She sees each day as an opportunity to start fresh and learn something new.
