- Fort Clatsop at the Lewis & Clark National Historical Park
Visit Fort Clatsop to learn about Oregon’s history as a pioneer country. Each day, costumed performers lead demonstrations of pioneer life and tell incredible stories about Oregon’s history. Take a guided canoe or kayak tour, go on a beautiful hike through the national park, or explore the visitor’s center on a self-guided tour or with an audio tour. All activities are included with park admission, which is $10 for anyone 16 years and older and free for those 15 years and younger.
- Astoria Column
Considered the signature landmark of Astoria, the Astoria Column was built in 1926 to celebrate the discovery and settlement of the West. The column itself is adorned with stunning illustrations that depict the history of the Astoria area, including the discovery of the Columbia River, meetings with the Chinook and Clatsop tribes, and the Lewis and Clark expedition. Admission into the grounds is free, except for a $5 parking fee. You can even purchase a glider from the park’s on-site gift shop, allowing you to glide down from the top of the column to the ground below.
- Columbia River Maritime Museum
Learn about the ocean at the Maritime Museum, where visitors can discover the Pacific Ocean, the Columbia River, and the beauty and dangers of oceanic transportation. Visit the museum’s RealD 3D theater to catch a rotating selection of educational films or stroll through the museum’s visiting exhibits. Climb aboard the Lightship Columbia, a floating lighthouse that once was used to mark the mouth of the Columbia River. The Columbia has been beautifully restored and is now open to the museum’s visitors. Adult admission is $16, while senior admission is only $13, and children 6-17 are $5. Children under five and active duty service members may attend for free! Admission to the 3D theater is an additional $5, in addition to museum admission.
- Astoria Riverwalk
The Astoria Riverwalk is a beautiful and adventurous trail for outdoor-loving families. The 6.4-mile trail passes by many of Astoria’s incredible landmarks. The trail itself passes by maritime landmarks and shipwrecks, as well as sections of the Astoria & Columbia River Railroad. It takes you under the Astoria-Megler Bridge, the longest continuous three-span through-truss bridge in North America. You may even have a chance to see some incredible local wildlife along the water’s edge! Stop along the way at the restaurants and parks located throughout downtown Astoria.
- Oregon Film Museum
Film buffs will have an incredible time at the Oregon Film Museum, housed in the old Clatsop County Jail, which served as the set for several great movies, including the 1980s adventure classic The Goonies. Visit the film museum to learn about the history of film production in Oregon, including over 400 major productions. Visitors to the museum will have the opportunity to learn about film production and the roles that a film crew plays, and get a chance to try making a movie of their own! You will also have the opportunity to visit the jail cells, leave a note for the Goonies, and browse the museum’s gift shop for film memorabilia. Adult admission is only $6, while children aged 6-17 pay $2, and those under 6 receive free admission.
