Math can be a complex subject for your child in school. When I was younger, I could ace English without a problem, but Math was almost a foreign language, and I struggled. When I was put in honors classes, I fell behind in Math because I couldn’t grasp it no matter how many hours I put into studying. Thankfully, it has become more manageable for me, and tutoring to help your children will make it easier for them and their future.

Mathnasium

One of the best-known options for tutors in Portland is the Mathnasium. They offer hybrid tutoring or online and in-person options, and they promise that your child will transformatively change and that you’ll see a noted change in their schooling. One of the best advantages is that the tutors are caring and experienced, which means your child gets a nurturing environment where they can truly develop their skills.

The first thing you’ll need to do is to schedule an assessment so that they can understand where your child is at and what they need to work on. After you’ve completed the assessment, you can start scheduling sessions and have your child begin the tutoring process.

Saturday Academy

The Saturday Academy offers help not only in Math but in other areas as well. They believe in the love of learning and want to encourage children to fall in love with it. They have activities as well as tutoring that are designed to help an impact on children. The classes are for K-12 and offer a supportive environment.

They also offer career help and apprenticeships in STEAM fields for older teens (high school). You can register for the necessary classes online or by mail, but remember that if they are there all day, no meal is provided, so you’ll have to ensure they take one with them. There is also financial assistance if needed.

Jams

Jams believes in maximizing your child’s potential and wants to help your child learn math better. Their methods will help teach your child organization and discipline and help them understand a better way to learn. The online classes allow students to study independently at home if they prefer, or you can go in person. If you choose to be at home, the child will need a functioning camera and microphone on their computer.

It’s also suggested that you carve out time to help your child understand the method and ensure engagement. Although the authors believe that having the parent engage will be more helpful, they don’t expect you to learn this new method with your child. They believe encouragement is enough.

North Avenue Education

North Avenue serves four schools in the Portland area. They offer in-person tutoring, but they also offer test prep. With their academic tutoring, they can help you understand Math more comprehensively. Still, they can also give your child the ability to make better studying decisions and help them have a better game plan when doing homework.

If you have an older teen who is struggling, they offer help with the SAT and college help, which can be a big bonus when prepping for the future. Each pricing package is different, but they have many options, so be sure to check out their site and choose the package that best fits your needs.

The Portland Math Tutor

The Portland Math Tutor will put you in touch with a great tutor who uses math assessments and progress software so that you can see your child developing. Taking tutoring classes will ensure that your child gets the help they need and can help them prepare for the future as math becomes harder. The courses for teaching grades 6-12 are extensive and include Common Core Math, Compacted Math, and Calculus. He can also teach your child how to use a graphing calculator to avoid confusion and learn the proper methods (these calculators can be pretty tricky and, even after it’s explained, can still cause issues with some students).

Learning To Grow

Math is something that your child will have to deal with for the rest of their life. If they’re finding that they need extra help, I hope this list helps to give you the best chance of helping them understand it better so that they can grow and learn and have a fantastic future. With the options at your fingertips, you’ll see that they can easily handle the SAT and any future tests! Good luck!
