The most common berries found in the Portland region include:
- Blueberries- Wild blueberry bushes can be found in mountain areas outside the city. The peak blueberry season is usually in late summer.
- Raspberries – Both red and golden raspberries grow wild throughout the forests and fields around Portland. Raspberry season typically runs from mid-summer into early fall.
- Marionberries- A large, deep purple blackberry-like fruit that is a regional specialty. Marionberries tend to ripen in mid-to-late summer.
- Salmonberries- These large, orange-red berries have a sweet-tart flavor and grow abundantly in coastal regions near Portland. They typically ripen in early summer.
- Strawberries- These are typically the first berries to the party. They are sweet berries normally bright red. The local Hood variety is a prized find, but strawberries in this region are incredible.
- Tayberries- A variety of berry that is a cross between a blackberry and a raspberry. Tayberries have a rich, complex, tart-sweet flavor and dark purple-red color when ripe.
